Raise a Glass

by Dawnell Smith Anchorage Dail News

A central location and cosmopolitan atmosphere make Crush one of the coolest new places to drink and eat downtown. With heady wine choices and filling dishes, the bistro caters to a broad audience from the early morning latte crowd to late-night pinot snobs.

The Three Crushes

by Mark C. Stevens Anchorage Press

I grew up in the Columbia River Valley, now considered an up-and-coming wine production region, but I am old enough to predate the proliferation of vineyards. I am amazed each time I go home for a visit to see that the dusty dunes of my youth, once littered with pop-top beer cans, are verdant with rows of vines. And each year at this time, the local wineries hold a festival for the crush—the first pressing of grapes for their wine.

I have never been able to attend the festival, having set out on my life's travels before they began the tradition. I have never made it home at the right time. Similarly, my travels abroad have been poorly timed for other wine regions' celebrations, although I have always wanted to attend.
